We've finished about 90% of a big new section for Rollama, where you'll be able to input your own word lists and automatically generate up to nine practice games for your class.

We've designed three categories of games to organise learning:

1) Define - students should first learn the meaning of the target word, including links to etymology and morphology; there's not much point knowing how to spell a word if you don't know what it means.

2) Recognise - the first step to spelling a word is noticing the correct spelling of that word, in contrast to misspellings and other words.

3) Spell - lastly, we scaffold a sequence of progressively more challenging tasks which build the knowledge to spell the word independently.

After your students have practised these activities, you'll be able to view a detailed heatmap of your class, word-by-word.

Here's a summary of what's in development.

Define:

1. Cliff Climber · Match the word to pictures – a first visual step to learning the meaning of a word

2. Downhill Definitions · Match the word to a definition – learning a formalised written definition

3. Canoe Can-Do · Choose the word in context – deepening understanding by using the word in a sentence

Recognise:

4. Dual Divers · Match audio to written word – begin recognising the sound of the target word

5. Target Ticker · Choose the correct spelling in context – recognise the correct spelling

6. Fault Finder · Spot the misspelled word – recognise spelling mistakes of the target word

Spell

7. Spelling Supporters · Anagrams – spell the word by rearranging the letters

8. Pedal Power · Fill the missing letter – spell the word by filling the gap

9. Spelling Sprint · Spell from audio – hear the word and spell independently without support

We'll be reaching out with more details about how to use Sporty Spelling in the near future. We hope to launch to all users by September 2025.
